Comforting pasta with a creamy tuna sauce made from simple pantry staples in 25 minutes.

Avo's Tip

  • Add tuna at the end.

  • No canned tuna? Canned salmon works great; white beans make a vegetarian version.

  • No heavy cream? 2 tbsp cream cheese loosened with pasta water gives a similar richness.

  • Different pasta? Any shape works — short pasta holds the sauce especially well.

Ingredients

1

Canned tuna

2

Garlic

3

Olive oil

4

Cream

5

Pasta

 Instructions

1

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the pasta according to package directions until al dente. Reserve ¼ cup pasta water before draining.

2

While the pasta cooks, heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the garlic and cook 30–60 seconds until fragrant.

3

Pour in the cream and bring to a gentle simmer. Cook 2–3 minutes until slightly thickened. Drain the canned tuna and stir into the cream sauce, breaking it apart gently.

4

Add the drained pasta and toss to coat, adding a splash of pasta water if needed to loosen the sauce.

5

Taste and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper. Serve immediately.

Quick Fixes

  • Too dry: Add a splash of pasta water before tossing — it emulsifies with the cream and tuna oil beautifully.

  • Fishy taste too strong: Drain canned tuna thoroughly and add a squeeze of lemon juice to brighten the flavor.
